The SEC Office of Inspector General (OIG) recently released a report criticizing the SEC’s Division of Enforcement for failing to act on findings from its Fort Worth, Texas Examination group. The report concludes that SEC Enforcement failed to act on findings from four separate examinations of the Stanford Group’s operations during 1997 to 2004. On each occasion these examinations revealed the likelihood of a Ponzi scheme related to Stanford’s CDs. In response to the OIG report, the SEC has released a fact sheet describing institutional changes and improved ways for Enforcement to evaluate and prioritize cases.
